As I was cruising through my daily blog reading this morning, I ran into a reference to an excellent article on T.L. Pakii-Pierce's blog How To Blog for Fun and Profit.
He referred to an article from SignOnSanDiego.com about word of mouth marketing and the Internet. The article points out how consumers are smart and traditional advertising is no longer as effective as it used to be. The Internet and blogs, provide a forum for consumers to get information they trust more than what ad agencies churn out.
I was particularly struck by the findings of a Harris Survey:
Marketers are only too aware of how people are tuning out conventional advertising, and they go goggle-eyed at the prospects for tapping into the Web's potential for word-of-mouth peddling: One Harris Interactive survey found the Web is one of the most trusted information sources for making big purchases, second only to spouses.
If you're the least bit interested in marketing online and off, I recommend you read this article.
