I received this tip today from the Independent Consultant's Association. It reminded me of something I learned years ago and in which I firmly believe and truly pays huge dividends for any business: under promise and over deliver.
Surprise your clients...
Give them more than they expect. All the time. In every
way. How?1. Promise them something for next week and give it to them
tomorrow.2. Send helpful information and notes about things you feel
will benefit them.3. Digest articles in relevant publications for them in a
non self-serving way.4. Prepare a report on an event you just attended and send
it to them... without telling them in advance that you are
going to do it.5. Do special summaries, reminders around specific dates,
events, anniversaries, and other triggers.Tip: Do more, be more. The goals: To get them
to say "Wow... what a consultant... more than I ever expected."
and to actually help them more than you had ever planned.P.S. Over-delivering pays off powerfully.
Under-delivering will not only lose this client but all
referrals.
