Smart and Savvy Tip: First 5 of Top 10 Tips for Building Your List

Email marketing works well when you implement tactics to build your list. But you don’t want just a large list of email addresses; you want a large list of people in your targeted niche who are interested in you and your services and products. The more clear you
are about what you do and the products and services you offer, the better results you will have.

  1. Use a database management system, such as with KickStartCart, or one of the email newsletter distribution systems. These systems will provide you with an opt-in form to put on your website.

  2. Define your ideal reader/client: the more clearly you define your targeted niche audience, the easier it will be to deliver messages that are relevant and valued. If you already have a mixed list, you may need to segment it into areas of interest.

3. Clearly define the benefits of your ezine, or mini-ecourse: “Pet Matters is a monthly HTML ezine for pet lovers who want to save time and money by learning easy grooming tips.” Write the 25 word description using benefits that your readers will receive if they
sign up to your list.

  4. Offer a compelling reward for signing up. If you use an article or white paper, write a compelling headline that offers top tips or insider secrets not available elsewhere. You can change your sign up button to read, “Send me the insider tips” instead of a boring button that says “Subscribe me.” You can also say “Become a Special Club Member”, but be clear that membership includes an email newsletter.

  5. Put your sign up form on all your web pages, your blog, and in your email signature. Make it easy for people to subscribe. Use pop-ups and pop-unders upon exiting your site to make sure you capture as many sign ups as possible. Repetition counts.

Action Step:

Write a 25 word description of what your subscribers will get when they sign up. Emphasize the benefits that people will get as a result of reading your email messages. Be clear about the format, the frequency, and the topic.

This is a pretty basic, yet "a must" list to build an opt-in list. Sometimes we search for new and innovative strategies but miss some simple ones.

Yes, this list is basic, and it's surprising how many people who claim to be marketing their business online DO NOT implement these tactics. As well, there are new entrepreneurs starting online busiensses everyday so inevitably there is someone who does not know these things yet. Thanks for your feedback, Igor. I agree with the blog squad, I was shocked when I was in a certain (No Names) forum and I post a poll. Do you use email tactics in your online business? 64% No!! I could no believe it. So I posted a long winded post explaining how much business they are missing out on. I just couldn't believe it.
