BlogHer Conference today

My Blog Squad partner and I are attending the BlogHer conference today and Saturday in San Jose.  400 people, mostly women (I've seen 3-4 men) are here to talk about all things blogging and business blogging is a very small part of it.  Patsi and I will be posting about the conference and the people we're meeting on Build a Better Blog.

Are you prepared for a power outage?

With record heat across the United States, it's not too much of a surprise to find an article with tips on how small businesses (and that means you too, service professional!) can prepare for possible power outages.  BusinessWeek Online has a good article with tips on how to prepare your business.

Marketing to Indian Consumers Online

If you're exploring how to tap into the exploding Indian consumer market, you'll be interested in reading a new report from MarketingSherpa: How to Market to India Online -- 4 Challenges and 22 Helpful Hotlinks.  The report is available for no charge until August 4.

Along the same vein, I'm currently listening to Thomas Friedman's The World is Flat. I'm three hours in to the first of three parts and am totally riveted by Friedman's depiction of how and why the world has become "flat".  Nearly the entire first two hours cover how India has become such a powerhouse in the global economy.  So far, highly recommended.

List Building FAQ Now Available

Last month Patsi and I presented a class on proven ways to grow your ezine list.  What grew out of the class was a multi-media program with audio and ebook that we released last week.

Part of what's included in the program is a list of 31 questions people sent to us about how to grow their ezine lists.  We answered them all.

Now, we're making this FAQ available to you.  But there's a catch, of course.  You can get the special report free when you subscribe to our ezine, SavvyeBizTips.  The only other way to get the report is if you purchase the List Building Program (now at a special launch price with a $20 discount).

Free or fee, it's up to you.  We received excellent questions and answered them all in full.  Subscribe to SavvyeBizTips and you'll get the report as our gift to you.

Blog Marketing: I'm an influential authority!

I was just alerted that this blog, Next Level Biz Tips, is considered an "influential authority" on blog marketing.  I rank #8 in the top 20 according to a study done by Onalytica, a company in the UK that "identifies, measures and monitors who has influence on issues, markets and brands."

Table1710555 You'll see I'm not very popular but I do come in ahead of some very big name blogs.

I'm shocked as hell, so let me show you the definition that Olyalytica provides about influence and popularity:

The difference between influence and popularity
The difference between influence and popularity can be highlighted by looking at the parameters taken into account when measuring the two.

When you want to measure the popularity of a stakeholder, you count the number of other stakeholders who refer to the first stakeholder in the context being analysed. So the only variable taken into account is “number of referrals”.

Analogous this can be used to measure the link-popularity of a particular website by counting the number of inbound linkers.

However, when measuring influence we take one more variable into account: The influence of the endorser (linker).

I have to confess that this is a bit too complex for me so I'll take it at face value and accept the honor with gratitude.  Thank you, Onalytica.  I'm glad to know what I'm doing has some influence!

One more thing, AllBusiness.com came in at #15.  I also write for that blog network at Your Project Partner.
