Reader John Trosko alerted me to a blog post by Stephan Spencer about teens migrating from MySpace to a not-so-new social networking site called Bebo. Sad to say, I had not heard of Bebo. I'll check it out and report later. There are way too many of these social networking sites to keep track of.
What also caught my attention is the fact that over half of MySpace visitors are aged 35 or older. Hmmm, so how to catch the attention of all those visitors and turn them into customers? That's something I'm still working on and seems to depend a lot on how many "friends" you have. Wanna be my friend?
And, finally, my third video from the SCBWI conference. You'll probably notice I figured out how to add a still clip to the video. I was also able to import the Blog Squad theme music clip to all the videos. The music was purchased from Music Bakery which sells royalty free music.
Video number three features James Thach whose book A Child's Guide to Common Household Monsters, will be on bookstore shelves in a few months.
I guess I should mention that the organization we spoke to over the weekend was the Ventura/Santa Barbara chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Here's my second video featuring Clark Childers, a very forward-thinking guy who self-published a children's book about a freak snow storm in southern Texas.
This past weekend I got to experiment with video. While at the Mission Retreat Center to speak about blogs for a group of children's book authors, I shot 3 very short video interviews with three of the authors. First, I had to figure out how to use the camera since it wasn't mine and there was no manual.
Next, I tried to figure out how to download the files to my laptop but was unsuccessful. Today, Patsi's husband, the owner of the camera sent me the files. I recently learned that I have Windows Movie Maker on my computer so I decided to work with that to see what I could do. About 3 hours later, I had 3 short videos posted on MySpace. My editing skills need some work. Without further ado, here's my first video interview with Gregory K. Pincus, screenwriter and kid's lit author:
Featured interviews, publications, links to ALL my blogs.
