I just read an excellent post by Mark Widawer on his Traffic and Conversion blog about why it's important to have people register for teleseminars. He responds to a reader's complaint that he should send the call-in information in the original email invitation rather than require registration. Mark's answer is right on and exactly how I respond when I get this complaint...you need to be able to track and follow up with the people who are interested in this specific topic. You need to segment your list (listen to yesterday's Blogging and Beyond show). Here's the comment I left on Mark's post:
I have received this same “complaint” occasionally as well, and my response is practically identical. The interesting thing is that it usually comes from people who are attending a marketing teleseminar to learn how to market their business online, yet they don’t get that’s what this is all about and rather than complaining, they should be studying and modeling what the successful online marketers are doing.
To be successful online you must capture email addresses, segment your list, offer valuable information and follow up, to name a few things.
