Google Calendar Helps You Share Your Events

A post by John Jantsch about Google Calendar reminded me of something I've been meaning to do for awhile.

How do you let your readers, web visitors, prospects and customers know what you're up to and where you'll be speaking?  For awhile I used Trumba calendar to have events dynamically posted on my blogs, but then they started charging for the service and it wasn't worth it to me.  Then I found out you can post public events from your Google calendar with an RSS feed.  It's been on my list to do for a few weeks. So, thank you John, for the reminder.  John posts the steps to set this up on his Duct Tape Marketing blog so I won't repeat them here.

I will say, however, that I finally took the time this morning to set up a public calendar for Blog Squad Gigs and it's now posted on all our public blogs.

Patsi and I have been using the free Google calendar for at least 6 months to track our mutual and separate appointments.  I tried several different applications and finally decided on Google since it's so easy to use and share calendars (and it's free). 

Essentially you set up multiple calendars that are then visible to whomever you choose, or private, or public.  We have a Blog Squad calendar (me and Patsi), my personal appointments (me and Patsi so she knows my availablility), Patsi's personal calendar (me and Patsi so I know her availability), our marketing schedule (me and Patsi), and Blog Squad Gigs (public).  Each calendar is color coded so we can tell at a glance where our time is allocated.

I set up an RSS feed for the public Blog Squad Gigs (as outlined in John's post) and posted that as a TypeList on all our blogs.  Feedburner makes it real easy to set this up and add it as a widget to TyepPad blogs.  Then, whenever I add a public event to our calendar, it will automatically show up on our blogs.  Cool, huh?

This is great - I've been looking for something like this so I have one more way o get info to my list without emailing them. This is a great site - all kinds of good stuff. I appreciate it - and how much work it is to do it. Thank you!
