You've just published your first podcast program. Now, you want to get it out to the world.
You are on your way to doing that already. You've got the program posted on your blog and it's being delivered to iTunes.
There are many, many podcast directories. One of the most comprehensive lists of directories we've found is at Podcastnews.com. Like promoting your blog, you want to submit your podcast to as many directories as you can and that are appropriate for you subject matter.
Many directories will require you to register on their site. Once you do that, you'll need some information handy that you can copy and paste into the appropriate fields. Since you already did this when you set up your podcast for iTunes, you should have your title and description already handy.
One of the podcast directories that is giving iTunes some competition is Yahoo! Podcasts. Their system is simple to submit to and invites subscribers to rate your show. iTunes recently had to add this feature as well to keep up! Yahoo! Podcasts also provides small badges (graphic images) that you can add to your blog or website so people know they can subscribe to your podcast on Yahoo! Podcasts.
Other ideas for promoting your podcast include:
- Send an announcement to your entire network of clients, customers, newsletter subscribers, prospects, colleagues, friends and family.
- Submit a press release announcement to an online service like www.prweb.com
- Add a link to your podcast in your email signature file
- Add the URL to your business card
Once you get a few shows under your belt and a few subscribers, word of mouth will also start to happen as listeners refer your show to their colleagues and friends.
