A few days ago I wrote a post about how to easily and cheaply record and post audio on your blog or website. I promised to follow up with a post about how to create a podcast with that audio. I confess, I had written most of it when there was a power surge which shut down my computer and I lost everything I had written. Drag. And a good lesson to save often when writing something long. And, yes, I do have a big surge protector but maybe I need a new once since I got no warning to shut down.
Ok, back to podcasting.
You have the audio recorded, now what?
As indicated in my last post, I'm writing this based on using AudioAcrobat since it's inexpensive and simple to use.
1. Log in to your AudioAcrobat account.
2. First, you need to create a new podcast. Click on the Podcasts tab, then click on the link for Create a new podcast.
3. What's the name of your podcast? In the first field, you are creating the URL for the podcast feed. So when they say "name" they mean what are the keywords you want to include in your podcast feed URL. For example, the "name" for Savvy Biz Cast is savvybizcast which creates this URL: http://blogsquad.audioacrobat.com/rss/savvybizcast.xml
4. Next, what is the "title" of your podcast. This is like the "name" of your show. The title of our podcast is Savvy Biz Tips.
5. Write a keyword rich descrition for your podcast. What can listeners expect to learn? How will they benfit from your podcast? How often can they expect to get episodes from you? How long are they?
6. If you have a logo or picture to illustrate your podcast, upload it. The image will be automatically shown on iTunes.
7. Complete the info about mobile podcasting if that is something you'll do.
8. Be sure to add the URL for your website or blog where you want people to go for more information about you. Add copyright info.
9. Syndication. Yes! Unless this is a private podcast for clients only, or you are charging a fee for delivery, then yes, you want AudioAcrobat to automatically syndicate your podcast to the few podcast directories on its list.
10. After you save your changes, your podcast will be set up. Now you need to complete the information for submitting it to iTunes. Click on the link for your new podcast.
11. Click on the iTunes tab. You have a choice to have your podcast automatically syndicated to iTunes or blocked. See #9. If this is for the public, check the Activate box.
12. The remaining fields are self explanatory. You want to make sure you have a compelling description which you should already have from step 5. You'll need the keywords for your podcast subject matter and decide on the 3 categories you want your podcast listed under.
13. After you save your changes, click on the Publish tab to get the HTML code to add a "subscribe" button to your blog/website and for the information to add your podcast to iTunes. No doubt you've seen these buttons all over the place. This is a subscribe button for Savvy Biz Cast: ![]()
14. I know this seems like a lot of steps, but once everything outlined above is complete, you don't have to do it again. The only thing left is recording your podcasts and then adding them to your podcast feed...
15. Here's the last important step...and content to your feed. By doing this, subscribers can automatically get your podcast updates when they sync their mp3 player with their favorite podcast reader.
16. Click on the View Posts tab for your podcast. This is where each audio program will be listed once you have added them.
17. Click on the New Post button. You will be directed to a new page. Under Media Enclosure, this is where you select the program you want to add.
18. It's like adding a blog post, you need to give the new audio post a title and a description. This is info people will see with each program in the podcast directories. Be concise and descriptive.
That's it. Each time you record a new show, you upload it, then add it to your podcast. Nothing to it! No complicated gadgets or technology. Nothing stopping you from creating a podcast that will boost your business and attract new clients!
