Google Alerts Help You Manage Your Online Identity

Yesterday Patsi and I interviewed personal branding guru, William Arruda. We had a great conversation about why it's so important to manage and control what others see about you online. Arruda had excellent tips and stats about why and how you must pay attention to your online identity.  Listen to the show on Blogging and Beyond.

We talked about using Google Alerts to monitor what's being written about you online. We wrote about this subject in this week's Savvy eBiz Tips so I decided to reprint the article here.

Do you know who's talking about you on the Web?

On the Internet, your reputation is important and because online news travels fast, being able to respond quickly is crucial. You need to know right away when you or your company is mentioned on the Web.

The best way to monitor your online reputation is with Google Alerts, a free service. Go to http://www.google.com/alerts and sign up.

All I want for my birthday...

...no, not my two front teeth.  Yes, June 26 is my birthday so I'm going to digress here and put out a request for help.

I'm currently training to run a half marathon.  For a non-athlete like me, it's quite a feat. We're five weeks into it and I'm going strong. At yesterday's training I ran 75 minutes, approximately 6 miles. I never thought in all my life I would run 6 miles!

I'm training with Team in Training and raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There are two reasons I chose to train with a team rather than on my own.

1. The selfish reason is that I would never do this on my own. I need the structure, support and coaching.

2. The cause is important. My brother-in-law, Michael, was recently diagnosed with Waldenstrom's Disease, a rare form of lymphoma. Currently there is no cure. The LLS raises money for research so treatments and cures can be discovered. It takes $100,000 for a research grant. My team is committed to raising $400,000. My personal goal is at least $3,000. It's the very least I can do to contribute to his search for treatment.

I'm running The Nike Women's Half Marathon in October in San Francisco. I've got a lot of money to raise and 75% of your donation goes directly to the cause.

As my birthday wish, I ask that you make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

I'm writing about my training experience on my personal blog, so you can keep track of how I'm doing and send me words of encouragement!

I hope you'll consider a donation. No amount is too small or too big! :-)

Speaking Gigs: How to Get Them and Build Your Business

Seems to be the theme of my day...received two emails from trusted resources with info about how to book speaking gigs.

First, our mentor, Tom Antion, who has made a fortune by speaking, is hosting a teleseminar on Thursday, June 28 called:

"Get More and Better Paid Speaking Engagements without Doing Any of the Work Yourself! . . . Unless you want to."

The first 200 registrants get a free CD of the program, shippining included.

Second, Marketing Sherpa, one of the best sites around for case studies, has a tutorial called:

"How to Become a Star by Landing Coveted Speaking Gigs & Gaining New Business"

The tutorial is free (open access) until June 27.

I never thought I would be a public speaker, but Patsi and I have learned that we have to be ready to speak to groups if we want to reach more people and get more business.  You can't learn from anyone better than Tom Antion!

Doodle Your Meetings

This week I was introduced to a new (to me) online application that helps you schedule meetings for a group of people.

Doodle is very simple.  You set up a poll with the dates and times suggested for the meeting, send the link to your group and then let each person pick the times they are available.  It becomes instantly visible which day/time is the most convenient for the mos people. Saves a lot of time since you don't have to go back and forth with dozens of email trying to get everyone to agree on a time.  Check Doodle out.
