Blog Squad Interview on PodTech.net

When I was in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago for the Wells Fargo Technology and Small Business webcast, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by James Gaskin.

James publishes video podcasts about technology for PodTech.net.

We were waiting to get into the studio for the webcast and did the interview in a hallway next to the Coke machine.  Not very glamorous, but it was fun.

1000 posts

Yesterday, a milestone passed.  I published the 1000th post on this blog which I started in September 2004.

Build a Better Blog has 932 posts.

Blogging and Beyond has 130 posts

Slim People (my personal blog) has 413 posts

Patsi and I have a few other pass-protected client blogs all of which have several hundred posts on them.

The result of all this blogging? More opportunities, a new business, lots of jv projects, a three times increase in revenue, lots of great new friends, a huge amount of learning, and lots of fun.

Entrepreneur's Vacation Club Launches September 6

If you're tapped in to the Internet Marketing world, you've probably heard about Rick Radditz's newest venture: The Entrepreneur's Vacation Club.

It's something I've been toying with joining because I love the idea of hanging out with other motivated, smart entrepreneurs and tapping into their energy and ideas to help grow my business, and theirs.

Membership opens on September 6 and will be limited to 416 entrepreneurs. Plus on September 6, that day only, the $1,000 application fee is being waived. I know this won't be for everyone, but if you love to be around other savvy biz people, brainstorm and share ideas, this could be a great investment for you.

Here's the promo info if you're interested in checking it out:

Shopping Cart Debate

Practical Ecommerce has two articles in its current issue about online shopping carts: hosted vs. licensed.

The argument for a hosted ecommerce solution is presented by Michael Valient of 1ShoppingCart and the licensed solution is argued by Massimo Arrigoni of ProductCart.

If you're a regular reader of this blog, then you know that we are huge fans of 1ShoppingCart and have been using it in our own business for many years. In the interest of full disclosure we are also affiliates of KickStartCart, a private label version of 1ShoppingCart. This is the only solution we recommend for our clients who are primarily service professionals and small businesses.

Naturally, you need to consider your own business needs before you make a decision about which way to go with a shopping cart. On Thursday, we're interviewing Christina Hills, The Shopping Cart Queen about how to use a shopping cart to automate your business. Disclosure: Christina is also a big fan of 1ShoppingCart and trains people on how to use it.

Protecting your digital content

A topic that often comes up among online business folks is how to protect your digital intellectual property from unscrupulous people who buy it and then spread your content around the Web.

Jay Hollander of the Expertpreneur Law Blog, has a good post on information product security.

We are always faced with this problem: do you password protect info products and deal with the customer service issues that are inevitable or do you not worry about it and know that your work is reaching new prospects? With the latter you're leaving money on the table and with the former you are creating barriers and service issues.

What's your take on this issue and how do you handle it?
