By way of my mentor, Tom Antion who tests everything and doesn't refer anything unless he thinks it's worth it, I learned about an exit popup program called Don't Leave Me Ads. I'm not real sure about the name, doesn't quite make sense to me, but that's what it is.
If you've been doing business on the 'net for any length of time, you know there's a constant debate about popups. Whether or not you like them, they do produce results, so they're a tool not to be overlooked. Just use them judiciously.
The primary ways we use pop ups are 1) to encourage people to subscribe to our newsletter and 2) as an exit popup to somehow, some way get the person leaving the site to take action on something before they disappear.
