I had to go into the Apple store at the Mall: my new iPhone can receive but not send out email. Next time I go, I'll wear my black t-shirt and jeans and not comb my hair for 3 days so I can fit in.
Apple sure gets branding right! It's like walking into a cult meeting with evangelists waiting to pounce and convert you. I was over the average age by about 40 years. Everything from the white packaging, to the demo tables, to the staff, projected their image: young, hip and savvy.
I had to get an appointment with a tech person, since the floor geek couldn't solve my problem. There was only a 2-hour wait, so I came back later. Their tech staff works by appointment only, behind the "Genius Bar." He couldn't figure it out either, and did what any self-respecting tech person would do: referred me to GoDaddy. Must be their problem.
I'll call GoDaddy today to see what's stopping email going out, and I'm not worried unless they loop me back to Apple again. GoDaddy is another business that gets branding right, backed up by superb customer service.

Change the outbound port for your SMTP server. It can be found under the advanced options. Usually 80 is the best bet since no service provider generally blocks the web, but I think with GoDaddy you can also use 3030 or something like it (it's in their main eMail help screen).
Other option: Delete the account and force it to re-sync through iTunes from your Mac again, and change the port in Mail (if you use a Mac and use Mail).

Try setting outgoing mail server (SMTP) to cwmx.com - that's it, nothing else. As I escalated up Apple service chain, I got that answer and it solved that problem. It's possible that may not work if I am using wifi as opposed to Edge, but I am using iPhone without wifi any way.
And pray too. ;) As that has failed at times, but for last 3 weeks no problem.

Kevin, thanks so much! I wish I had gotten this comment day before - I ended up spending an hour at the AT&T store (2nd time) and they also went up the customer service chain until we finally got this information and setting: cwmx.com. It now works.
Now why wouldn't they inform their store personal and Apple that this setting is required instead of the usual/normal settings?
I knew I wasn't the only one with the issue, but we couldn't find anything online...
Thanks, once again a customer is doing the work for AT&T!
