I'm totally obsessed with Facebook (so is Patsi!). Prepping for our teleseminar with Facebook expert Mari Smith on Monday, I've been scrutinizing the best ways and applications to use Facebook as a business building tool. I know I have a long way to go and am looking forward to what Mari has to say on this subject as well.
Here are 7 Facebook Apps I'm currently using:
- Ad Manager - I'm experimenting with placing ads to build awareness of teleseminars and our white paper.
- Blog RSS Feed Reader - pulls the feed from this blog and publishes new posts on my profile. (Note: it doesn't always work. I've noticed that lately, I have to manually update the feed which defeats the purpose.)
- Business Cards - I've set up a "business card" that I can append to messages and wall posts.
- Events - a must use app. For every class, free or fee, I'm posting an event page and inviting my friends to attend.
- My Profiles - links to my profiles on LinkedIn, MySpace and YouTube
- Kiva - non-profit micro loan organization where I participate by giving micro loans to women entrepreneurs in developing countries. It's very important to me to give back.
- Profile Web Address - a custom URL for my Facebook profile
I also post photos, videos and use the Posted Items apps to add content to my profile.
I confess that I don't like or use things like Fun Wall and other stuff like that. The purpose of using Facebook, for me, is to develop business relationships and some of the stuff on Facebook is simply silly and distracting and doesn't represent me as a professional business person.

Hi, I think It's great you are incorporating business on Facebook, a lot of people now are into it, though mostly the young generation are in for it for the fun part, they can learn a lot and maybe venture as young entrepreneurs..

Interesting subject - I think the scope and potential for business-based apps is only just beginning to be realised.
If you're looking for online freelancers, or for online work yourself, you could try the ki work bounce app.
It enables you to create detailed summaries of your online work skills or requirements, then 'bounce' them to your contacts. They can then bounce them fwd to relevant people they know and so on, helping you make useful professional contacts and improve online work opportunities.
