Social Media Simplified was a Spectacular Event
On Monday I had the honor and pleasure of sharing the stage with several social media stars at Social Media Simplified. The event was organized on very short notice by Linda P. Taylor and the entire program was filmed live in front of a studio audience at the Ventura Technical Development College.
First up was Mari Smith, (@MariSmith on Twitter) dubbed the Pied Piper of Facebook by Fast Company Magazine. She gave a great presentation outlining 10 things you need to know and do to use Facebook for your business.
Next up was Coach Deb Micek (@CoachDeb
on Twitter), author of the recently published book about Twitter. Deb
had flown in on the red eye from her home in Hawaii and arrived just in
the nick of time.
Deb wowed the audience with her energy and enthusiasm for using social media tools to engage and persuade your followers to do business with you.
After lunch it was my turn (@BlogSquad
on Twitter). Naturally, I talked about business blogging and how to
gain massive visibility using blogs connected with your social
networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Then, we had two special guests: Nancy Marmolejo (@NancyMarmolejo) of Viva Visibility and Simon Leung (@simonleung), a Google expert (he worked there for 6 years at the inception of the Google Adwords program -- he knows Google!).
Nancy and Simon gave intros to their expertise and then we moved to a panel format and did two blog critique hot seats with VIP audience members.
After the filming wrapped up, the VIPs adjourned to dinner and more
networking at a very nice French restaurant in Ventura (sorry, no pics)
and then it was back to L.A.
The previous night a group of locals had a Tweetup to say hi in person and get to know one another. That was a lot of fun and funny since everyone was using their mobile devices to send tweets about being at the tweet up!
