T-Mobile G1 Arrived!
Two days before launch day, my T-Mobile G1 phone landed on my doorstep! I got back to the office late Monday after 4 days of back to back seminar gigs -- first Tom Antion's Fusion and then Susan Levin's Speakers' Summit on Monday -- and the package was waiting for me.
Not expecting it until Wednesday and being very tired, I didn't look at the package right away. A few hours later, I opened the package and got real excited. I've been using a basic cell phone for years, not really thinking I needed much more. And, I probably don't, but after being at BlogWorld Expo and everyone tweeting and connecting on their iPhones, I wanted one too.
My mobile service is with T-Mobile so I decided I would get the new G1 when it was unveiled on September 22. All the tech blogs have been reviewing it so do a search on Google and you'll find tons of info.
For me, it's a huge step up: access to the Web, learning how to use the
scrolling and screen flicking features. It's not as sleek and slim as the iPhone. It's a bit heavy, but I really like the flip out Qwerty keyboard. I find it's easier to use than tapping a screen.
A couple of issues I've run into are: trying to leave a voice mail message (for some reason my voice is not triggering the VM and is not recorded) and deleting vm messages. I press the number to delete and it's not registered. I don't know if it's me or the phone.
There are not a lot of apps available yet, but that will change soon enough. So far, I'm very happy to have a new gadget to play with.
