Today I was working on a class about Twitter for our Massive Visibility mentees. While I was putting together info about how to sign up and the basics of creating a profile and how to tweet and reply, I wondered what others thought about regarding using twitter for business.
One of my favorite ways to use Twitter is as a research tool. So I put the question out to my followers:
Survey: What's the most important thing new users should know about using Twitter for their business?
Naturally I got responses right away, all thoughtful and worth considering. Since I have my tweets automatically post on my Facebook profile, I also got a responses there.
Click through to see the screenshots of the great tips I received and then click the comments link to share your tips for newbies and what they should know about using twitter for business.

Use your real name rather than something clever like 'hotmomma.' It's easier for people to find you and also adds credibility.

I think it's definitely important for businesses to start using Twitter, but I don't think a lot of them know how to go about it. There are Twitter users that talk about what they're doing that day or what's on their mind, and there those that post valuable links to interesting blogs or events in the community. As a business, I think it's important to find the balance between the two, and to make sure to reply. Thanks for sharing, and I hope your Twitter class went well.

I want to stress how important the information in your profile is. This is what absolutly everyone looks at to see if they desire to follow you. If your profile is not a fit for them then people will not follow you and that is not a bad thing. You want people who can relate to you to follow you.
Your profile should clearly indicate who you are and what you are about with regard to twitter. Whatever your purpose make sure it is clear to all who read it.
I teach coaches how to grow their business and get coaching clients. When I changed my profile to better reflect what I do and who I am and my response picked up tons.
