Longtime readers know I frequently write about online presence, online visibility and how to manage your online brand. I'm currently working on a project that addresses the challenges of creating a positive and massive online presence and I got to wondering what your challenges are. I know there are issues around time, creating content and technology. But is that all? Do you know how to measure your online presence?
In Career Distinction, William Arruda calls this knowing your GQ (Google Quotient). You can use an online calculator to find out if you're "digitally distinct."
I'd love to know what your specific challenges are around creating and managing your online visibility. I will respond to all questions and challenges via blog post or video so we can tackle and master this important aspect of marketing our businesses together.

I have a couple of challenges concerning my online visibilty.
(1) Getting motivated to keep my blog alive (i.e., posting regularly).
(2) Lack of tech knowledge. I'd like my TypePad blog to look and act more like a business Web site, rather than just a collection of articles. This is a big problem for me right now. I guess this includes monetizing my blog.
Thanks!

I have two main issues:
1. Determining and locating my target audience is my biggest challenge.
2. Time management and prioritization. I'm a mom, dog trainer and judge, wife and find my time to write waxes and wanes like the moon.

I guess I have the same problem as everyone finding the time and knowing what to write about.
Also, need to learn more about blogging and understand what makes a good blog.

My question is about key words. How can I write interesting posts with attention-getting headlines and still get my key words in so they help search results?

I just need to get in front of the right buyers. I need to understand how to find my audience and then draw them in.

Hi Cassie, in response to your item #2: here's a link to a blog post that includes other links that talk about how to create a more "traditional" looking website with your TypePad blog:

All of the above is challenging to me as well. Probably my main challenge is technology. For instance: how to put a FACEBOOK and Twitter and LinkedIN tag on my blog (I need exact steps, click here, click there, etc.; same for RSS = little technical things are bugging me.

Denise,
My problem is not finding time so much as motivation. I've been 'researching and learning' how to set up my website and 3 new blogs for over a month, every time I have free time. Still haven't decided on a theme or what goes where on anything. Got a huge stick to beat me over the head when I procrastinate again? :-)

Hi Denise,
I'd say a big issue is conversion. I do have some traffic and I believe it is from my target audience, however sales are not being generated from the visits I do have anywhere near like I thought. My book answers questions that my audience has, working on figuring out where the disconnect is between the answers they want and spending money to get them.
I've done a ton of things (my own blog, other people sending out reviews, twitter, FB and more) but getting noticed/being heard above the noise seems more and more difficult.
With Twitter and Facebook, there is so much constantly going on, I feel it's hard to get anybody to pay attention. I know a lot of people have thousands of followers, but no matter what, only so many are on the site at any given time, if they're not your message is missed. I feel like I'm there, I have a presence but I'm not noticed.
Hope that helps. Thanks for asking!
