Favorite Elf: A Good Example of Viral Marketing Done Well

Denise_elfDenise may just kill this post, or me... or both, but I couldn't resist "elfing her up"... although I've never actually seen Denise dance, here is how I imagine it:

Denise does the Holiday Hip Hop...

This link is only good for 24 hours, so if you get a dud, you are too late!

There really is a point to this exercise. Office Max gets it right on how to do an effective viral marketing campaign.

Have fun!

Blog Meme Hits Me

Today I was "memed" by my colleague and friend Paul Chaney who was memed earlier by Diva Toby Bloomberg.  This is a game going around the blogosphere where you reveal What 5 Things You Don't Know About Me.

A meme is like a thought virus or a cultural virus that gets passed on, usually organically.  In this case, the meme is getting passed around strategically by bloggers.  It's a good way to introduce you to other blogger friends and for readers to learn more about me and the others already memed.  Here's the definition from Wiktionary:

Any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. Examples might include thoughts, ideas, theories, practices, habits, songs, dances and moods and terms such as race, culture, ethnicity etc.
A self-propagating unit of cultural evolution having a resemblance to the gene (the unit of genetics).

OK, here goes...5 Things You Probably Don't Know About Me:

BuzzWhack

By way of Bob Bly's newsletter, I discoverd BuzzWhack, a fun site that is "dedicated to de-mystifying buzzwords.  Here's one I like:

carbon-based error: Error caused by a human, not a computer (which we assume would be a silicon-based error).

Custom Road Sign Sports Your Message

Thanks to John Trosko at OrganizingLA, I discovered a fun way you can shout out your message on your blog or website.  Try a Custom Road Sign to bring attention to a special event, anniversary (like John's 1 year blogging anniversary), your tagline, or other important message.  I haven't figured out what to say yet, therefore no roadsign here yet.

My Japanese Name

Sometimes it astounds me what you can find on the Internet.  Take this for example:

My japanese name is 遠藤 Endoh (distant wisteria) 歩 Ayumi (walk, deeper meaning: walk your own way).
Take your real japanese name generator! today!

I didn't even know I wanted to know this until I ran across it on another blog and was curious.

On the ligher side...for Email Marketers only!

Anne Holland of the Marketing Sherpa has published 7 cartoons by contributing editor Mark Brownlow:

Last week, MarketingSherpa's contributing editor Mark Brownlow hesitantly admitted he'd been hiding something important from us. The strain of five years of reporting on email marketing had made him crack.

He was moonlighting as a cartoonist. Not just any cartoons -- cartoons about email marketing.

Take a look at the cartoons here. They're good for a laugh if you do any email marketing.
