Twitter and Blogging by CEO's - New Stats and New CEO Tweeters

Twitter News out this week: some CEO's are now using Twitter...

First, this new study shows that there has been an enormous increase in the number of CEO blogs.

Given that previous research now shows that just 11.6% of the Fortune 500 currently having a public blog, it is astounding to see that 39% of the Inc. 500 are blogging.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research recently conducted one of the first statistically significant, longitudinal studies on the usage of social media in corporations. Be sure to click the link to read more about corporate blogging and social media usage.

Next, you know you can spot a trend when busy CEOs start using a site like Twitter. Microblogging site Twitter.com is the latest tech tool to enter the C-suite. Here's what Business Week says is the CEO Take on Twitter:

Southwest Airlines Team Blog

During the Thanksgiving holiday I had the good fortune to spend quite a bit of time at the airport waiting for my flight to Northern California to be cleared for take off. The Burbank airport was socked in with uncharacteristic fog and all flights were delayed about 2 hours.

Southwest_2 Fortunately, the folks at Southwest were very communicative about the delay and ended up accommodating my request to change flights so I could fly to a different airport and meet my family on time for our Thanksgiving celebration. I fly Southwest a lot and I cannot remember having a bad experience with them.

But that's beside the point. While hanging out at the airport at 6:30 a.m., I decided to catch up on some podcasts. One of my favorites is Marketing Voices, weekly perspectives on social media marketing. The interviews with major players in the Web 2.0, social media and marketing arena are always enlightening, informative and interesting.  At approximately 10-15 minutes, they pack a lot in and are perfect those moments when you have some time to kill.

The first podcast in my list happened to be with Paula Berg, the PR Manager for Southwest.  Paula was being interviewed about Southwest's popular blog, Nuts about Southwest, and their team approach to blogging.
